Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton: Timeless Love

Picture
It was only a matter of time. Once someone dies, it's like a race to see who will pen the movie that will be the closure we all didn't get by a simple casket closing.

Well, now that Liz is passed, Martin Scorsese is in cahoots with Paramount to make a love story surrounding these two tumultuous lovebirds who met on the set of the movie Cleopatra.

Rumor has it that Martin's got a few more consents to grab (from the Taylor's) before he moves forward on this love story.

Who else will get their own film now that they're dead: Osama bin Laden? Dr. Kervorkian?

Peter Facinelli: Indeed a Triple Threat

Picture
Facinelli Can't Hardly Wait for new role. LOL get it?
Jennie Garth's man is doing well for himself. After the Twilight movies wrap, Peter Facinelli will be STARRING in the lead role of a movie he WROTE and is PRODUCING. That's the norm for us indie writer/directors, but even those will tell you it's a juggling act. His feature film called El Chico Blanco is a story about a white outcast from the hood who unexpectedly becomes the head criminal after a stint in prison. Sounds pretty loco to me (in a good way) but I think it'll be interesting to see him play something outside the norm.

Good work, Facinelli!

24 The Movie

Picture
Similar to the last post, it seems 24 is still looking for a suitable screenplay. The original was passed on by Fox. Though no open invitation is mentioned, I think any screen writers who know the story should try to write something and pitch it.

Dark Knight Rises Still Looking for Two Female Leads

Picture
'I was really hoping for a blonde this time,' says Bale. 'Over-rated,' says Caine.
Looking to begin filming in May, Christopher Nolan is looking for two new female leads for The Dark Knight Rises: a villain and a love interest. According to "The Hollywood Reporter", some potential leads could be: Jessica Biel, Keira Knightley, and Anne Hathaway. Christian Bale will have some nice eye candy on set with either of those lasses.

Eenie Meenie Miney Moe

Picture
Are you thinking what I'm thinking? These two Black Swan stars move on to make almost the same movie. Are the studios trying to confuse people, or was this designed to be a popularity contest?
Both movies are about moving friendship to a sexual relationship, thus causing emotions and other elements of a romantic comedy. Which one will you be seeing?

Golden Globe Host

Picture
You know this guy, right? He's Ricky Gervais, the British sass and host of the Golden Globe Award Show this Sunday.

You probably know him from The Invention of Lying and Ghost Town. Expect to be humored and possibly offended, though his cool English accent makes it forgivable.

Cheerio!

Mountain Theater Had Two Best Movies: The Fighter & True Grit

Picture
This weekend has been awesome for many reasons. 1: It was Jose's birthday and we celebrated with a romantic trip up to the mountains. 2. The one theater in town had these two awesome movies.

Movie reviews to follow!

Hansel & Gretel Get Sinister?

Picture
Hansel really should've asked for directions on this one.
Well, technically the tale has always been pretty Grimm (haha), but in this new movie version of the folktale I doubt the ending will be anything but happy.

In a time where we seem to have returned to revealing the dark side of fairy tales (Red Riding Hood), I'm convinced this will be one of a string of movies based on traditional folktale stories. The movie is said to have Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton attached as brother and sister who have grown up and hunt witches, witch busters if you will. Guess they lost their sweet tooth for gingerbread houses after that whole witch-in-oven incident.

Paramount is hoping to have Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters release by Halloween. More details will become available when filming commences.

Spirit Award Volunteer Application: Denied!

Picture
I'm really okay with it. REALLY, I am!
D'oh! I guess I didn't make the cut. Spirit Awards took applications for volunteers and guess who didn't make the list: ME!

The letter mentioned that they had more applicants than positions to fill. They also said not to take it personally. So I guess my celebrity stalking was not to blame.

Congratulations to those who made it! :)

Screening of The King's Speech at LA Film School Friday

Picture
The wonderful people at Creative Screenwriting Magazine offer another award-nominated movie, this Friday at L.A. Film School: The King's Speech. And in case you've been rockin' around your Christmas tree too much to notice, this movie is like the lead contender for the Golden Globes.
Starring
Colin Firth and Tim Burton's lady Helena Bonham Carter, this movie is about a newly-crowned King George VI who must lead a country when his father and older brother die. The conflict? He's got a speech impediment, one he's had his whole life. His wife saves the day by arranging a speech therapist-Lionel (Geofrrey Rush)- to aid him in his pedagogical insecurities. The therapist and king develop a long-lasting and inspiring relationship.

Blue Valentine  Rating Changed

Picture
As you may know Blue Valentine was slapped with a rating of NC-17 initially, but all that changed last week when Harvey Weinstein himself pled his case that other comparative sexually explicit films held R ratings.

As you may know, there is a stigma to holding an NC-17 rating (can you say Showgirls with Jessie Spano?). The MPAA (guys who give the ratings) allowed the change, WITHOUT the movie having to edit or tweak. Talk about a rare, sweet Valentine.

The movie makes its debut on December 31, 2010. However, if you're a Film Independent member, you get to see it on Monday. Hope to see you there!

Spirit Awards Nominees

Back to the Grind

Picture
Hope you had a good weekend everyone. This weekend I busied myself with two of my favorite things: movie watching and movie writing. Oh yeah, and I also updated my website and got a really awesome relaxing facial. One of the updates is that I've added a new tab above Services. Here are some services I am now offering to you or others who may need them. I've also listed some opportunities I'm looking for. Happy Monday!

Okay, so I might be a little late posting this, but I wanted to make sure you all got to see the nominees for the 2011 Spirit Awards. I sometimes sound like a cheerleader for Film Independent, the organization who puts on the Spirit Awards, but they really are the awesomest! You can watch this 11 minute video to hear the nominees for the award show. If you're a member, you get to vote, which means screeners sent to you! Sign up with them or volunteer. I'll be seeing you there!

James Franco and Anne Hathaway To

Picture
Speaking of Franco, I'll be seeing his 127 Hours Thursday!

Host 2011 Academy Awards

Picture
Nothing says well respected actor like being asked to host the Academy Awards.

What's interesting about choosing Anne Hathaway and James Franco is not only their youthful ages but also that they both may be receiving their own awards this year (her for Love and Other Drugs, and he for 127 Hours). Historically, hosts have usually presented consecutive years (Bob Hope, Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal), but getting two fresh faces will hopefully attract a younger crowd. The show also strives to stay upbeat and energetic, unlike past years where the show may have run over four hours.

You can bet I'll be watching, especially because Anne is my girl!

Stream It Tomorrow to Find Out Who Was Nominated

Picture
The announcements will be made at 8 am tomorrow PT/ 11 am ET. If for no other reason, you can see the lovely faces of Jeremy Renner and Eva Mendes. And if you still need a reason, Film Independent is a pretty cool non-profit organization that helps new and independent film makers bring their dreams to life.

I'll be showing my gratitude to the organization by volunteering at the actual award show on February 26th! You can join me if ya want: Spirit Awards Volunteers

Parents, Bring Your Babies to the Movies With You

Picture
They're on their way now
Parents, going to the movies might be an option again. UltraStar Cinemas are designating time for you AND crying, screaming baby to watch a movie.

The accommodations include:
  • · valet stroller parking
  • · dimmed lights, not complete darkness
  • · lower than normal volume and changing stations in auditorium
To my knowledge, this is exclusive and new to UltraStar, meaning its a bit limited in locations and showings (mornings).

Movies will mostly include dramas or romance comedies. Check the website for more details.

Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Movies!

Picture
Creative Screenwriting magazine is awesome for many reasons. One of the best things they can offer (besides awesome, useful writing tools, are the opportunities to see movie screenings, followed by a Q&A with the screen writers.

Now, you may have already seen The Social Network, but if you haven't or want to see it again, I'd advise signing up on Creative Screenwriting's site to be invited to this screening that includes a visit from the talented Aaron Sorkin.

The movie screening will take place in Los Angeles on November 29. Hope to see you there!

Author's First Novel Going to Be a Movie

Picture
Kathy Charles is an author from Australia whose first book is not only meeting high success but will be adapted into a screenplay.

Producers Ralph and Joan Singleton have purchased the rights to this novel "John Belushi is Dead" which is a fictional tale about two young adults obsessed with the places of death of notorious Hollywood actors.

If you're a read-the-book-because-it'll-be-a-movie kind of person, pick this book up, which has only recently been available in the U.S.

Keeping Up With the Nominations

We're heading into awards season soon. I posted an unofficial list of movies that most likely be nominated. See the list here.
