So I've started to chisel away at my list of movies I haven't seen yet that may be nominated. Of course, this is one of those experiences that I look forward to each year. This means little time for other movies I'd normally enjoy for just sheer pleasure.
The Next Three Days starring Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks, and Olivia Wilde has had mixed reviews, but I couldn't resist seeing one of my favorite actresses in a role outside her norm so I went to see it anyway. Banks and Crowe play a married couple whose lives are interrupted the morning Banks is arrested for the murder of her boss whom she had a fight with the evening before. Crowe loses his appeal in court and resorts to breaking her out of jail. A real romantic gesture if you ask me, I mean how chivalrous is a man who would risk everything to get you out of the pokey?
The movie has been criticized for moving slow at some points. Could it shave off 15 or 20 minutes in Act 2-- sure, but once the movie picks up, the momentum gets your heart pumping. I stand by this movie so much, that I'm offering a free opportunity to see it. Like (in the right column) Film Child and leave a comment here and I'll choose someone at random to give two free movie passes to. I'll post the winner sometime next week. Hurry this offer will end in the next three days

Crisply acted, smartly directed and patently absurd, The Next Three Days is a high-tension thriller wound so tight it seems ready to snap like a stressed guitar string at any minute. I think the main problem with The Next Three Days is it lasts about a half day too long.

Russell Crowe always has been a favorite of mine. This movie is definitely on my list of must sees. Plus, to see Liam Neeson as a bonus? I'm there!

I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it.
